Reddingsbrigade Wijk aan Zee was founded in 1925 to prevent and combat drowning. Now, 100 years later, the lifeguard organization continues this mission. Reddingsbrigade Wijk aan Zee has around 200 members, of which over 60 are active lifeguards. The tasks include active beach surveillance, as well as training and providing information. This work is done voluntarily, and for financing, the organization relies on subsidies, donations and gifts

Mission

Reddingsbrigade Wijk aan Zee aims to prevent and combat drowning in the broadest sense. For over 100 years, we have been providing beach surveillance on the beach of Wijk aan Zee.

We set up warning flags, rip current boards, provide information, and patrol by car or boat. Since we are directly on the beach, we have a lot of contact with beachgoers. If things do go wrong, our beach and emergency teams are ready to assist 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Association

Reddingsbrigade Wijk aan Zee (or officially Wijk aan Zeeër Reddingsbrigade) is an association. We are affiliated with Reddingsbrigade Nederland. As a result, we are also a member of the NOC*NSF and the ILS. This means that our lifeguards hold an internationally recognized (ILS) diploma.
